Screed for underfloor heating systems
Underfloor heating and liquid screed are made for each other. The screed is the part of the floor that takes heat from the pipes and spreads it across the room, so how well it surrounds those pipes matters.
Why liquid screed suits underfloor heating
Because it is poured as a liquid, the screed flows around every pipe and fills the gaps between them. There are no air pockets left around the pipework, so heat passes straight from the pipe into the floor. Liquid screed is also typically laid thinner than a traditional sand and cement screed, which means less material to warm up and a floor that responds more quickly.
Before we pour
The heating pipes need to be fixed down securely, and the system filled and pressure-tested by your heating installer, before the screed goes in. The floor also needs its insulation, membrane and perimeter edging in place. Tell us where your project is up to and we will explain what needs to be ready.
After the pour
A new screed needs time to dry before floor finishes go down, and the heating should be brought up gently rather than switched straight on. Follow the guidance for the screed used and for your heating system.
